Evangelist Edward Akwasi Boateng has disclosed that the story behind his failed marriage stretches back 20 years, long before the final separation.
During an interview with Akoma FM, the Ghanaian gospel singer reflected on how an old mistake, once tolerated, resurfaced only after his fortunes declined.
He recalled that the marriage did not immediately suffer when he cheated during a period of financial stability. At the time, he was travelling frequently and the family was growing.
“My wife didn’t divorce me when I cheated on her during the time I was financially stable. Back then, I used to travel abroad, so she stayed with me and even gave birth to three children. My kids are now 20, 16, and 14 years old,” the ‘M’akoma So Ade’ singer recounted.
Boateng said the issue faded into the background until he later lost his savings, a moment he believes reignited resentment. He explained that his wife began raising the decades-old incident as if it had just happened.
“But she started complaining about the cheating that happened 20 years ago, at the time when I had lost all my money. She made it look like the cheating happened recently. Because of that, she even left the house and stayed somewhere else for six months until I went to plead with her to come back,” he said.
Their reunion did not restore the marriage; the gospel singer indicated that once his wife achieved her own financial independence, tension between them sharply intensified.
“So when she came back, she became financially stable and bought a car and even built a house. That was when things became worse. She said she couldn’t be with me anymore and that even if the Pope begged her, she wouldn’t listen. So we have been divorced for the past six years,” Edward Akwasi Boateng stated.
