Fresh details are surfacing after the arrest of a 36-year-old businessman by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over alleged online sexual exploitation and the non-consensual circulation of intimate content.

The suspect, identified by police as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, was picked up on May 6, 2026, during what authorities described as a joint intelligence-led operation involving the CID’s Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). He is said to be a resident of East Legon in Accra.

Since the announcement was made public on May 12, conversations around the case have intensified online, with multiple sources linking Anane Boateng to the well-known socialite popularly called SoAfrican.

The name has since dominated discussions on X and other social media platforms, where photos and videos believed to be connected to him continue to circulate widely. Some of the content shows him in the company of prominent Ghanaian figures, including personalities from the entertainment scene.

The development has triggered widespread reactions online, with many users expressing shock while others raised concerns about the increasing number of Ghanaian public figures allegedly being linked to criminal activity and fraud-related cases.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, during a briefing on recent criminal investigation breakthroughs, CID Director-General Lydia Yaako Donkor disclosed that investigations pointed to the suspect as the operator of a Telegram platform identified as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”

According to her, investigators believe the suspect used alprazolam, widely known as Xanax, to drug unsuspecting women before allegedly sexually assaulting them, filming the incidents, and sharing the footage online without their consent.

“The suspect is alleged to have frequented nightclubs in 2025, where he seduced, drugged, and sexually assaulted female victims before recording and disseminating their intimate images without their consent,” she stated.

Police say several items were retrieved during the operation, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, as well as empty sachets suspected to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.

COP Donkor explained that the electronic gadgets have been kept for forensic analysis, while the sachets are being forwarded to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for examination and classification.

She added that the suspect has already been arraigned before court, with investigations still ongoing.

The Ghana Police Service also reaffirmed its commitment to combating online sexual exploitation and abuse, urging members of the public to report suspected incidents through the appropriate authorities.
