Veteran Ghanaian Highlife artiste Adane Best has pushed back strongly against viral claims that he is battling a severe illness and seeking urgent financial assistance.
He addressed the controversy during an interview with Oyokodehye Kofi on Accra FM’s Highlife Time on May 16, 2026, making it clear the reports were fabricated.
“It is not true. I also ask for God’s forgiveness for those who started and spread that rumour,” he said.
The veteran musician warned that the story may have been engineered by individuals trying to profit dishonestly from his name and public image.
“More especially, someone of repute shouldn’t use their life and health to make illicit money,” he added.
He explained that he is unaware of who originated the false narrative, but confirmed that the issue has already been escalated to law enforcement. He also noted that he personally used his social media accounts to counter the claims as soon as they surfaced.
“The police are actively investigating but haven’t yet made any arrests,” he said.
“I am actually not that much interested in an arrest. I just want everyone to know it’s false.”
Recalling the moment the rumour began circulating, Adane Best said he noticed an unusual sensation around the same period the reports started spreading widely.
“The next day, I had an international call informing me that this was the news going around. This corresponded with the strange and unsettling feeling within my body. Right away, I noticed why I couldn’t sleep the night before. I immediately debunked it on my social media and informed a policeman at Amanfrom, who assured me the service would look into it,” he narrated.
He also cautioned the public against turning people’s health or supposed deaths into tools for financial exploitation, stressing the reputational damage such actions can cause.
“You may be thinking you’re making money, but you’re destroying your name too,” Adane Best added.
Amid the controversy, he expressed appreciation to Oyokodehye Kofi for the support shown during his father’s burial held at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
He urged the public to be more discerning about unverified claims and reiterated his plea for divine forgiveness for those spreading the misinformation.
