Mzbel expresses disappointment over appointment snub after supporting NDC
Ghanaian singer Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has expressed disappointment over not being considered for any appointment despite her active support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Although she admits she would likely decline any offer to maintain her peace and avoid public scrutiny, she believes a gesture of recognition from the party would have been an acknowledgment of her sacrifices.
“The truth is, even if the President offered me an appointment, I’d turn it down because I value my peace of mind. I work hard, and I don’t want my success attributed to politics,” she told Graphic Showbiz.
She explained that accepting a political role would expose her to undue criticism. “If I travel for my own show, people will say, ‘She’s using taxpayers’ money.’ They’ll claim politics made me who I am.”
Mzbel, however, expressed disappointment that while some of her colleagues have secured appointments, she hasn’t even received a call.
“I’ve been bullied, insulted, and even threatened for supporting the NDC, yet now that the party is in power, I’ve been forgotten. No one has reached out,” she lamented.
She admitted she is unaware of the appointment process, suggesting that perhaps others lobby for positions. “Maybe people submit resumes or make calls to influential figures, but at the very least, an offer would have been nice.”
Since 2012, Mzbel has been vocal in her support for the NDC, leading the Celebrities for Mahama group in campaigning for the party.
Now that the NDC is in power, she revealed she is under pressure from group members and sympathizers seeking job placements.
“My house has practically become an extension of the NDC headquarters,” she said, adding that many expect her to use her influence to secure them jobs.
However, she finds herself in a difficult position, as the party leaders she once had access to are now distant, avoiding her calls and absent from familiar spaces where she used to meet them.
